Bullard High School Fishing Club advances to THBSA Tournament at Toledo Bend




The Bullard Panther Fishing Club recently competed in the fifth and final event of the 2017-2018 regular season for the Texas High School Bass Association East Division, held Saturday, March 17, on the waters of Lake Palestine.

At the event, the Bullard Panther Fishing Club earned a second place team finish in a field of of 21 teams.

The leaders for the Bullard Panther Fishing Club at the Lake Palestine tournament were Jerrod Shrode and Reece Ricketts, claiming fifth place with five fish weighing in at 14.56 pounds.

Also helping the team with a strong finish were Bryce Nelson and Brock Davis, 10th place, five fish weighing in at 11.17 pounds.

Will Carlile and Zach Hastings earned an 18th place finish with a catch of four fish weighing 9.25 pounds.

Tyler Geer and Bailey Kurtz rounded out the top-20 finishing in 20th place with a catch of five fish weighing in at 8.95 pounds.

The Bullard Panther Fishing Club will send eight teams to compete at the upcoming THSBA Regional event, scheduled for Saturday, April 14, on Toledo Bend. Teams are qualified for the Regional tournament if they place in the top 40 percent in the THSBA East Division, have fished at least three tournaments, and are passing their classes.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Jul. 2)

GOOD. Water stained; 90 degrees; 0.23 feet above pool. Crappie are good on brush in 14 feet of water with minnows, or in timber in 18-25 feet of water with jigs. Channel catfish and small blue catfish are good near reading walls with stink bait or cut bait. Bass are good in 4-7 feet of water with senkos. White bass are good around sunrise in the morning on main lake points with small rattletraps or shallow diving crankbaits. Anticipate increased boater traffic this weekend as we celebrate our Nation’s Independence Day.
