Lake Palestine: East Texas Sport Fishing

Lake Palestine is one of the most beauiful lakes in Texas, and the sport fishing is good even in October.

With more than 25,000 acres of recreational land space, this East Texas lake has more to offer the outdoor enthusiast than almost any other lake in the region. Fishing is just one of the benefits to those who enjoy the great outdoors.

The Best Kind of Fish at Lake Palestine

It isn't as if one needs to fish to enjoy one’s time at Lake Palestine, but if fishing is your thing, there’s no need to go any further than here. The lake is known for its huge population of largemouth bass, which is why it’s such a popular lake for bass fishing tournaments. There are also a sizeable population of white bass and hybrid bass. Catfish lovers will be happy to know that lake is stocked with their favorite varieties of catfish, including channel, blue, and flathead.

Pro and amateur sport fishing enthusiasts alike ascend upon the lake for its bass fishing. That’s why it’s so popular for tournaments and lake fishing guides.

How to Fish at Lake Palestine

You don’t have to be a competition-level fisherman to fish at Lake Palestine. The lake is 18 miles long and features 135 miles of shoreline. Any kind of sport fishing enthusiast can easily find a spot to cast into.

The lake has plenty of other amenities and activities, too. It has marinas and boat launch docks, cabins, campsites, and more. Boating and skiing enthusiasts can enjoy the waters, as well. But fishing is what Lake Palestine is known for most.

As the lake is a good fit for all levels of angler and topwater fishing, so too are jig heads. Jigs fit every angler and most types of fishing, but they’re made to sink, and made to keep the bait off the lake floor. However, varieties are also available that allow anglers to jig with a bobber, to rig on top of your lead head, or to put on a soft body and fish top of water. Jig heads are also available for fishing in current.
Texas rigs are very common at Lake Palestine, then there are swimbaits, but if you want a lively jig for topwater bass fishing, you’ve got to try these floating jig heads.

Lake Palestine is Ready When You Are

Lake Palestine is only 12 miles from historic Tyler Texas where you’ll find restaurants and plenty of other things to do. That includes a nearby golf course, arts and cultural events, lots of shopping, and a state-of-the-art Planetarium. Still, fishing is the best attraction.
Whatever your outdoor passion, if you have an interest in the outdoors, Caddo Lake has something for you. Perfect for family weekends and group gatherings, it’s also an excellent choice if you just need to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and get closer to nature.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 17)

GOOD. Water stained; 70 degrees; 1.78 feet above pool. All boat launches are now open. A lot of flooded shoreline grass and brush, and some low hanging branches in the water are good for bass. Weedless frogs, creatures, chatterbaits are good. Channel catfish are beginning to move into shoreline rocks in the water, blue catfish remain good in 4-22 feet on live minnows and cut bait. When the water temperature reaches 74 degrees look for the flathead catfish to spawn along the shorelines. As water drops and warms, expect shad spawn to begin also. Crappie are finishing the spawn and returning to deeper habitats. Report by Jim Beggerly, Jim’s Fishing.
