FLW Fantasy Fishing revamped for 2014

Fantasy football, fantasy baseball…how about fantasy fishing? FLW Fantasy Fishing has some of the largest prizes in bass fishing, This year FLW is touting that it’s even easier to play. The game is free to play and FLW members receive access to fantasy tools that greatly aid in angler selection.

The 2014 version of FLW Fantasy Fishing emphasizes strategy. Players build a roster of 10 pro anglers at predetermined values within a $200 salary cap for every Walmart FLW Tour stop. The value of each angler will change for each event. Players have to adjust, not just to the fishery as in the past, but also to the valuation of each angler. The new format will force players to choose more than just the local favorites and perennial top finishers; the best-performing players will dig deep for high-value anglers.

Scoring is based on the performance of your roster each day of the tournament. Points are variable, so the points you have at the end of Day 1 will differ from your points at the end of Day 2, 3, and 4. Final points are awarded based on the actual finish of your roster in the tournament, with bonus points awarded for any angler on your roster that makes the top-10 cutoff.

Fifty prizes are awarded at each of the tournaments, including a $5,000 top prize. In addition, 10 cumulative prizes, including the $10,000 grand prize, will be awarded to the top scoring teams from all seven tournaments combined.

Players can view changes, examine angler valuations and select their roster at www.FantasyFishing.com.

The fishing is just starting to get good both on the water and in the world of fantasy fishing.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 24)

GOOD. Water slightly stained; 72 degrees; 1.10 feet above pool. More rain in the forecast for the weekend. Bass are good, with the fish beginning post-spawn spread out. A good bait to try is shallow running squarebill crankbaits, smaller ones that go no more than 2-3 feet down. Water in creek areas may still be rain stained, so try the darker colors there, shad and light perch colors in the clearer places. Hybrid stripers have also been good, often mixed with white bass, though little surface feeding has been observed. Crappie are fair, as they spread back out, fishing the open, deeper water has been hampered by wind and storms. Blue catfish remain good in 3-22 feet, often coming into the creek shallows for shad. Report by Jim Beggerly, Jim’s Fishing.
